Anger management is an essential skill for building our self esteem.  We feel so much better about ourselves when we know we can communicate clearly and assertively, without losing our temper and endangering our friendships.  Anger management is a skill and we need to practice it.

Some people are born with a more easy going temperament than others and for them curbing their temper and being able to deal with their anger easily is less of an issue.  The downside for these lucky people is that they may end up never actually standing up for themselves and what they want and like because they get used to letting things go.  For most of the rest of us anger management is a necessary social skill.  We can learn how to feel that sense of annoyance turning into anger and still be able to choose good anger management strategies without resorting to just exploding with anger.  Think about the last time you drove and someone else cut in on you.  Did you shrug and laugh, frown and tut, tense up and feel cross, shout and be furious then try to cut in on them later?  Guess which one could do with some anger management skills?!   How do you think you would score on an anger management survey?

Anger management comes down to being able to read your emotional state and manage your stress levels.  Relaxing more, breathing calmly, telling yourself a new story about the situation can all help defuse that feeling of anger.  Defusing it will help you then think of good ways to deal with the issue you are unhappy about.  Anger management comes with daily practice and is part of becoming more mature.  Of course know when to let rip is also important!

Anger is a really useful emotion.  We need it.  It is what we do with it that makes the difference between it being a destructive emotion or a constructive one.  Anger management, stress management and self development all go together to help you live a more enjoyable life.
